Aspen Publishing is seeking a strategic, collaborative marketing leader for the role of Associate Director, Product Marketing (Legal Education). This senior position leads product marketing strategy focused on driving faculty adoption of key titles, strengthening product positioning, and supporting long-term portfolio growth. This role is based in our Burlington, MA office on a hybrid schedule, but remote candidates will also be considered.

Working closely with Editorial, Sales, and Marketing leadership, you'll develop go-to-market strategies that maximize impact and keep Aspen's products aligned with the evolving needs of legal educators and institutions.

SALARY RANGE: $122.1K MIN/ $157.8K MID/ $199.7K MAX

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for leading product marketing strategy for Aspen's legal education portfolio; driving faculty adoption, product positioning, and portfolio growth; partnering with Editorial, Sales, and Marketing across the publishing lifecycle; developing sales enablement programs with differentiated positioning and competitive intelligence; and balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product Marketing Strategy & Portfolio Leadership
  • Lead the development and execution of product marketing strategy for Aspen's legal education portfolio, with a primary focus on driving faculty adoption, strengthening product positioning, and supporting long-term portfolio growth
  • Develop annual go-to-market plans for priority titles, in close partnership with Editorial, Sales, and Marketing leadership, that align editorial priorities, sales objectives, customer insights, and business goals to maximize market impact
  • Serve as the marketing owner for assigned product categories, ensuring consistent positioning and strategic alignment across the portfolio
  • Identify opportunities to expand adoption, increase market share, and strengthen Aspen's competitive position through data-driven marketing initiatives, recommending investment priorities based on business objectives
Editorial Partnership
  • Serve as the strategic marketing partner to Editorial throughout the publishing lifecycle—from concept and market analysis through launch, adoption, and ongoing portfolio management—developing positioning, launch strategies, and growth initiatives
  • Bring deep knowledge of legal education, faculty adoption behavior, academic publishing, and competitive market dynamics to inform publishing decisions and strengthen Aspen's position as the trusted leader in legal education
  • Help define the unique value proposition for each title and collaborate with editors and authors to develop messaging that clearly communicates each title's strengths and differentiators for its intended audience

Faculty Adoption Strategy
  • Develop strategic adoption plans for priority titles, identifying target faculty, courses, institutions, and adoption opportunities
  • Analyze faculty behavior, curriculum trends, and adoption data to create integrated marketing strategies that drive faculty engagement, increase adoptions, and identify new growth opportunities
  • Continuously evaluate market opportunities and recommend initiatives that increase awareness, consideration, and adoption
  • Participate in customer events, attend trade shows, and visit campus to build faculty relationships and support adoption efforts in the field
Product Positioning & Portfolio Differentiation
  • Develop differentiated positioning and messaging for multiple titles within the same legal discipline, ensuring each has a clearly defined audience, market position, and competitive advantage, with consistent messaging across all customer-facing materials
  • Create product narratives that help faculty understand each title's unique strengths and teaching applications
  • Monitor competitive publishing activity and recommend positioning strategies that strengthen Aspen's market leadership
Sales Enablement
  • Lead the development of sales enablement programs that equip the sales organization with differentiated positioning, competitive intelligence, customer insights, and compelling messaging to drive faculty adoption and institutional growth
  • Partner with Sales leadership to identify market opportunities, create resources, and ensure the team clearly understands the positioning, target audience, and differentiators for each title

Market Intelligence & Business Strategy
  • Monitor legal education and publishing trends to spot opportunities and threats, turning market/customer data into actionable recommendations for Editorial, Sales, and Marketing
Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Serve as marketing liaison between Editorial, Sales, and Marketing, leading cross-functional planning for product launches and key marketing initiatives
  • Think strategically and balance long-term planning with hands-on execution
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field required; Master’s degree or J.D. preferred
  • 8–10 years of progressive experience in product marketing, publishing, higher education marketing, or a related field
  • Deep understanding of legal education, faculty adoption processes, academic publishing, or higher education markets strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing comprehensive go-to-market and product marketing strategies
  • Experience partnering with Editorial, Product Management, or Product Development teams throughout the product lifecycle
  • Proven ability to develop strategic product positioning and differentiated messaging for complex product portfolios
  • Experience creating sales enablement strategies and tools that improve commercial performance
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze market trends, competitive intelligence, and customer insights to influence business strategy
  • Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders without direct authority
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, project management, and organizational skills
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience with CRM platforms, marketing automation systems, analytics tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to travel domestically as business needs require
